This year’s Day of Caring was September 24 and 25, 2021.
We were able to collect over 40,000 food items which was 17 pallets of food.
This is the largest food drive that we have had for the past couple of years. We were collecting the top needed items which were more expensive and larger-sized items. Also, on top of the food collected, we were able to raise $8,500 that will be divided by the three food pantries. This money can be used to purchase the food that they need when they need it. The food drive also had 40 community members volunteering and over 100 students from Vantage Career Center. Other groups involved were March school students and Thomas Edison staff.
The bloodmobile was a success as well with 160 units collected. Our goal for this year was 152. Every unit collected will save 3 lives.
“I wasn’t sure how this year was going to be with Covid still around but once again my community is there to support in a big way. I should know that after 7 years the Van Wert area is so giving. Our hashtag this year is #NeighborhoodOfGood and we live in the best neighborhood.” Vicki Smith, United Way Executive Director.
This year’s Community Partner is Tisha Fast State Farm Agent. A Community Partner is a company who has never had a campaign before and wants to volunteer in our events, and share about United Way. They have committed to doing volunteer work and promoting the United Way.
