Over the past weekend was the “Stuff the Truck” event at Walmart and Chief Supermarket. 5,534 food items and $1,023 were collected with help from many volunteers, including Vantage Career Center Criminal Justice students, Vantage Career Center Early Childhood students, CERT, Van Wert Sheriff Department, United Way Board and Committee Members and more. Thank you to all the volunteers that make these events possible, to Walmart and Chief for allowing us to be there, and to Greve’s Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram for lending us a truck!
Stuff the Truck is the kick off to Vantage Day of Caring, which is set for Friday, Sept. 29th, 2023. Many of our local schools will be accepting donations, so be sure to check with your students to see if their class is competing to bring in the most donations now through Sept. 28th. The public will also be able to donate anytime until Friday, Sept 29th when the barrels are picked up and sorted at the event. You can also take non-perishable food items like canned meat, peanut butter and mac & cheese to any of the barrels located at First Bank of Berne, First Financial Bank, Flagstar Bank, Citizens National Bank, 1st Federal Bank, Van Wert Federal Savings Bank, The Well Nutrition, or the United Way Office (136 E. Main St.).
The annual Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at Trinity Friends Church on that Friday, September 29th. The drive is from 8 am to 6 pm. Red Cross is proudly partnering with Vantage Career Center again this year. To schedule your blood donation appointment, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or go to redcrossblood.org, use sponsor code “VWDOC”. Thank you to our sponsors of the meal given to each blood donor: Vantage Career Center, Cooper Farms, and Vancrest of Van Wert!
